Body recovered from Minn. gravel pit pond

Authorities have recovered the body of a Fargo man they believe drowned while swimming illegally in a water-filled gravel pit across the border in Minnesota.

The 26-year-old man was with five others at the gravel pit near Felton in Clay County. The friends called authorities after he went under water Thursday night and didn't surface.

Rescue crews recovered the body after about an hour and a half of searching. The Clay County sheriff's office identifies the victim as Joel Berge.

Sheriff Bill Bergquist says "no trespassing" signs are posted at the gravel pit, which he says is on private land but is well-known to authorities as a party spot.
