Audit knocks lack of oversight for Minn. human service programs
A legislative auditor's report finds the Minnesota Department of Human Services failed to create the right procedures to oversee its massive Medical Assistance program.
"When we're dealing with billions of dollars, this is something that is a requirement of the federal government, they need to get it done in order to meet federal expectations," said Cecile Ferkul, the deputy legislative auditor. "I think it's a expectation that the citizens of the state would have."
Ferkul says the Department of Human Services has known of the problem since 2009, but has failed to fully correct it.
DHS Commissioner Lucinda Jesson said the department has made progress in meeting the requirement. She estimates the department will do so by the end of 2015.
