3 die in motorcycle crashes July 4

Three died in two separate motorcycle crashes on July 4.

The St. Louis County Sheriff's Office says 24-year- old Benjamin Jones of Rice Lake Township attempted to pass an SUV and instead hit it. He was thrown into the ditch near the Gnesen General Store, along with his motorcycle and the SUV.

Jones was pronounced dead at the scene. Officials say the accident is still under investigation. He was wearing his helmet at the time of the accident, the sheriff's department said.

The driver of the SUV received non-life threatening injuries.

Two other motorcyclists were killed the same day in a separate crash. 57-year-old Terrance Armstrong lost control of his motorcycle on Interstate 35 in Pine county.

Armstrong and his passenger, Kari Armstrong, 47, were airlifted to hospitals in Duluth, where they died. Both were residents of the city of Ramsey.
