ST. PAUL, Minn. — "Try to Remember..." urges the haunting song that opens the musical The Fantasticks. Now try to remember the last time this classic of American musical theater had a professional performance in the Twin Cities. It's been nearly twenty years. That's ironic for a show so beloved that the original production ran for 42 years and 17,162 performances -- the world's longest-running musical!

This summer, Skylark Opera in St. Paul opens its summer season with The Fantasticks, presented by a group of theater veterans and fresh young talent. Many are performing it for the first time, so they come to it with fresh enthusiasm and the delight of discovery. You can discover the simple, sweet, smart, and funny Fantasticks with music performed by the lead actors from Skylark, who visited Classical MPR. Quinn Shadko and Matt Berdahl sing "Soon it's Gonna Rain," and Gabe Preisser performs "Try to Remember."
