ST. PAUL, Minn. — There's hot, bold-sounding virtuosity, and there's languid, glowing virtuosity. Both were on display at a Frederic Chopin Society recital this past May when the Alessio Bax and Lucille Chung piano duo took to the stage at the Mairs Concert Hall at Macalester College.

The duo performed the bold and angular Variations on a Theme of Paganini by Witold Lutoslawski, and the dolorous, but smoldering, Tears of an Angel by Astor Piazzolla. The various flavors of their artistry are in this week's Regional Spotlight.
