Morning Glories: The clarinet takes center stage

May 13, 2013

ST. PAUL, Minn. — Every weekday morning at 10 a.m., the hosts at Classical MPR play a stand-out work based on the theme for the week. We call them Morning Glories.

This week on Morning Glories we're featuring five works in which the clarinet takes center stage - and we'll observe a noteworthy centennial.

Carl Maria von Weber: Clarinet Concerto No. 1

Aaron Copland: Clarinet Concerto

Johannes Brahms: Clarinet Sonata No. 2

Igor Stravinsky: Ebony Concerto

Today is the 100th birthday of jazz great Woody Herman, who commissioned this work from Stravinsky.

Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart: Clarinet Concerto
