ST. PAUL, Minn. — A Place in the Sun was a 1951 black and white classic of intrigue, betrayal and murder based on Theodore Dreiser's 1925 novel, An American Tragedy.

The film paired the beautiful Elizabeth Taylor with the brooding Montgomery Clift. Their off-screen friendship lasted until Clift's death.

Franz Waxman provided the music for this George Stevens' film that also starred Shelley Winters and Anne Revere.
