ST. PAUL, Minn. — The Janacek Sinfonietta from 1926 is folk-like, earthy and proud sounding. The piece describes scenes in and around the composers home town of Brno in the Czech Republic.

A tour-de-force for any ensemble, this week's Regional Spotlight performance by the St. Olaf Band led by Timothy Mahr is filled with colorful fanfares and rhythmic drive.
