Weather delays, cancels flights at MSP
Many flights in or out of the Twin Cities airport are being canceled or delayed because of bad weather here and elsewhere around the country.
"We've had a couple of dozen cancellations already today and lots of delays, said Patrick Hogan, spokesman for Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport. "This is a really big storm system, so it's impacting cities throughout the Midwest."
Delays for flights in-bound to MSP are averaging more than an hour, Hogan said. He didn't have a read on the average delay for departing flights.
"We're having to plow the runways and whenever we get into that situation we have to shut down runways for plowing. So, that does slow things down here and also the planes have to be de-iced," Hogan said.
Problems are also being experienced in Chicago, Detroit and areas of Ohio, he said. Heavy rain and flooding have battered Chicago's O'Hare International Airport, which has reported delays averaging 90 minutes. Meanwhile, delays at Midway International Airport have been averaging 30 minutes.
But in addition to the problems we're having here, there are a number of other airports across the country that are dealing with similar weather.
