'Les Miserables' sparks debate about live-singing in musicals

"Les Miserables" comes out on streaming and DVD this week. Unlike most movie musicals in which the singers record tracks in a studio and then lip synch during filming, the cast of "Les Mis" recorded their vocal performances live on the set. The technique lent a dramatic urgency which many admired, but others hated the less-than-perfect singing.
