Many budget cuts arising the federal sequestration won't go into effect immediately. But there's one pot of education money that's being cut right away and it has a few dozen districts in Minnesota scrambling to figure out how to address the shortfall.

The cuts are in a program known as "impact aid" - federal money that's sent to local districts as a way to make up for lost property tax revenue when those school district boundaries include federal land, including military posts and tribal areas. About 1,400 school districts serving roughly 11 million children nationwide benefit from the aid, including at least 22 in Minnesota that have tribal land.

We'll talk with Steve Wymore, superintendent of the Red Lake School District in northern Minnesota. He's in Washington this morning for a national conference of those 1,400 districts that receive impact aid. Related - Link to this story:
