ST. PAUL, Minn. — The Minneapolis police say nine people were hurt Saturday morning when a building in north Minneapolis caught fire.

Fire Marshal Perry Ebner said crews were called to a fire at a residential structure in the 4400 block of Aldrich Avenue North just before 6 a.m. They found heavy smoke and people fleeing from the building.

Ebner said firefighters rescued other residents from second-floor windows.

Crews found the fire in the basement, and Ebner said it was under control within 15 minutes.

The injured residents were taken to the Hennepin County Medical Center and North Memorial Hospital.
