Festival celebrates, demystifies owls
by Tom Crann, Minnesota Public RadioST. PAUL, Minn. — The 11th International Festival of Owls takes place this weekend in Houston in southeastern Minnesota.
Karla Bloem of the Houston Nature Center promises all things that pertain to owls and then some. The annual festival began as a celebration of hatch day of Alice the Great Horned Owl. Alice is the in-house owl of the nature center.
Events start Friday evening with the "owl prowl," where participants can search for owls with a naturalist. Festivities go through Sunday afternoon.
