17 more flu deaths in Minn., state reports
Flu-related deaths in Minnesota continue to climb, even as the outbreak tapers off.
The Minnesota Department of Health confirmed 17 additional deaths in its latest flu report released Thursday. That brings the total number of flu-related deaths in Minnesota to 165 since the start of this influenza season.
Minnesota's flu outbreak peaked in January and since then flu activity has declined sharply. The Health Department says last week 31 people were hospitalized with laboratory-confirmed flu compared to hundreds of people per week during the height of the flu outbreak.
Only two long-term care facilities had confirmed flu outbreaks last week. And four Minnesota schools reported outbreaks of influenza-like illness.
