Morning Glories: Osmo Vanska
February 25, 2013
ST. PAUL, Minn. —
Every weekday morning at 10 a.m., the hosts at Classical MPR play a stand-out work based on the theme for the week. We call them Morning Glories.
This week, Osmo Vänskä turns 60. We'll celebrate on Morning Glories with five recordings from his voluminous discography — all pieces by Nordic composers, as it turned out. We'll start with the earliest Vänskä recording we could find, then proceed to his years with the Lahti Philharmonic — a partnership that brought him, and that orchestra, international recognition. We'll also hear from Osmo Vänskä, clarinetist, and round out the week with two recordings with the Minnesota Orchestra, including a disc just released earlier this month. Happy Birthday, dear Osmo!
