January 24, 2013
ST. PAUL, Minn. —
David Finckel and Wu Han are coming to St. Paul for a sold-out performance with the Schubert Club, if you were lucky enough to get tickets, we hope you enjoy the show. If not, we've got a great consolation prize: a copy of their brand new Dvořák trios release.
Dvořák Piano Trio no. 3 in f minor, op. 65 Dvořák Piano Trio no. 4 in e minor, op. 90, "Dumky" These exquisite trios are performed by pianist Wu Han, violinist Philip Setzer, and cellist David Finckel
Finckel, Setzer and Han have met with critical acclaim for their interpretations of Schubert and Mendelssohn, and with this new recording, they turn their attention to Czech composer Antonin Dvořák, who arguably composed the largest body of chamber music following Beethoven. He was known for infusing elements of both Germanic Romanticism and Eastern European folk tunes.
Of Dvořák's several surviving piano trios, the f minor and Dumky Trio are two of chamber music's most beloved works. This recording, produced by the Grammy Award-winning sound engineer, Da-Hong Seetoo, was recorded in the sonically exquisite Concert Hall at Drew University in Madison, NJ.
In-flight entertainment: cello and beatbox
En route to Denver, a cellist and a flight attendant teamed up to treat the other passengers to an improvised cello/beatbox duet of a piece by Bach. Watch a video of the performance.
