State Sen. Ron Latz discusses guns laws, executive orders
by Tom Crann, Minnesota Public RadioST. PAUL, Minn. — A number of sheriffs around the country are saying they will not enforce any changes to gun laws that result from President Barack Obama's executive orders.
Pine County Sheriff Robin Cole told MPR News that because a legislative body has not approved the Obama's executive orders, it's not a law he can enforce. Cole also said that federal laws, in general, are not for local law enforcement agencies to enforce.
State Sen. Ron Latz of St. Louis Park, who is an attorney and chairs the Senate Judiciary Committee, responds to the points made by the Pine County sheriff.
