HealthPartners, Park Nicollet have merged
by Elizabeth Dunbar, Minnesota Public RadioST. PAUL, Minn. — HealthPartners and Park Nicollet Health Services have completed the merger the two health care systems announced back in August.
The new organization will go by the name HealthPartners, but the hospitals and clinics that are part of the system will keep their current names.
HealthPartners now has more than 1 million patients, primarily in Minnesota and Western Wisconsin. It has five hospitals, and its group practice has more than 1,700 physicians.
Officials say Park Nicollet and HealthPartners patients will have the same access to insurance coverage as before.
The merger marks a growing trend of strategic partnerships between two types of health care organizations. HealthPartners is both a health care delivery system and a health insurer.
