New state laws take effect Tuesday

Several new state laws go into effect this week.

Beginning Tuesday, all new school buses used in Minnesota must have a crossing control arm on the right front bumper that automatically extends whenever a bus is stopped.

Another new law mandates that any point of sale insurance on mobile phones and other portable devices must be offered separately from the device itself, not as part of a package deal.

Also going into effect is a law requiring people soliciting business from car accident victims to disclose any health care provider for which they work. The law is intended to prevent health care providers from using unethical marketing practices, such as using actors posing as law enforcement to draw customers.
