Case-Shiller: Metro, US home prices rising
by Annie Baxter, Minnesota Public RadioST. PAUL, Minn. — Home prices enjoyed another big lift nationally and in the Twin Cities in October.
The Standard & Poor's Case-Shiller home price index shows that overall prices in 20 major metropolitan areas climbed a healthy 4 percent over the year ending in October. Gains in the Twin Cities were even more robust, rising 9 percent over the year.
Officials at S&P say other housing data are also improving, including housing permits and new home construction.
Housing makes up about 2.7 percent of the US economy. But in the third quarter of this year, the sector played an outsized role, accounting for 10 percent of the economy's growth.
