US-Dakota War: '1862 in 2012' Minnesota Historical Society panel

During the 150th anniversary of the US-Dakota War of 1862, members of a Minnesota Historical Society panel discuss what we have learned about the events of 1862 and how history is told.

• Annette Atkins: Professor of history at St. John's University and the College of St. Benedict. Author of several books, including "Creating Minnesota: A History from the Inside Out."
• Syd Beane: Documentary filmmaker and board chairman of the American Indian Community Development Corporation and Little Earth of United Tribes Housing Corporation. Enrolled member of the Flandreau Santee Sioux Tribe of South Dakota. His family was exiled from Minnesota after the US-Dakota War of 1862.
• Dean Urdahl: Member of the Minnesota House of Representatives (R-Grove City. Retired high school history teacher, and author of four historical novels set during the US-Dakota War of 1862, "Uprising," "Retribution,"and "Pursuit."
• Curt Brown: Author and reporter at the Start Tribune. Wrote a six-part series in 2012 on Little Crow and the US-Dakota War of 1862.
• Cathy Wurzer: Panel moderator. Host of Minnesota Public Radio's "Morning Edition" and co-host of "Almanac" on Twin Cities Public Television.
