Sinclair Lewis: America's first Nobel prize winner in literature
ST. PAUL, Minn. — It was on this date, December 10, 1930, when big headlines were made by Sauk Centre's Sinclair Lewis, when he received the Nobel Prize in literature, the first American so honored.
The mercurial Minnesotan wrote such classics like Main Street, Babbitt, and Elmer Gantry.
MPR's Cathy Wurzer spoke with history professor Annette Atkins about Lewis and his place in history. She's teaches at the College of St. Benedict and St. John's University.
