Report: Minn. pilot in fatal Wyo. crashby Rupa Shenoy, Minnesota Public Radio
A small aircraft that crashed in Wyoming on Friday, killing its only occupant, was registered to former St. Louis County Medical Examiner Donald Kundel.
The police in Laramie, Wyo., have yet to confirm the pilot's identity but say he was on a trip to visit his son, who is a student at Wyoming Technical Institute. The Star Tribune reported that a family member confirmed 79-year-old Kundel was killed.
Spokesman Allen Kenitzer of the Federal Aviation Administration says the experimental, single-engine craft crashed upon landing under unknown circumstances. He says the amateur-built plane was coming from Duluth.
Kenitzer says the National Transportation Safety Board is leading the investigation.
The Laramie police say the crash burned about 30 acres.
