Fire warning halted for SW Minn.by Rupa Shenoy, Minnesota Public Radio
Minnesota fire officials say the red flag warning has been dropped for southwestern Minnesota because of moisture brought by a passing storm system.
Information officer Lynn Mizner says high winds combined with dry croplands and and grasslands means that there's still a chance for fires.
"The fine fuels right now are very low in moisture -- about as low as they can get," Minzer said. "It would take a significant rainfall to change that. And then some winds are picking up a little bit so, as soon as it rains a little bit the wind will dry everything out again."
Mizner says the fire near Parley Lake in Superior National Forest remains at 40 percent containment. She says Minnesota crews are ready to help if Canadian firefighters battling a blaze in the Emerald Lake area north of the border need it.
