Accused stabber wanted to 'hurt some cops'

The Hennepin County Attorney's office has filed attempted murder charges against a man who allegedly attacked two Minneapolis Park Police officers earlier this week.

According to the charges, 38-year-old Marsenior Johnson lured officers Katherine Hammes and James Huber to Minnehaha Creek with what turned out to be a phony robbery call in order to assault them.

Police say Huber noticed Johnson had his right hand concealed and ordered him to show it. That's when they say Johnson pulled a knife and thrust it at Huber's chest. However, the blade didn't penetrate the officer's body armour.

Johnson then allegedly charged at Hammes and stabbed her in the back of the neck. Hammes fell, and suffered a head injury.

According to the charges, Johnson stood over Hammes and raised the knife. Huber fired three shots at Johnson and wounded him.

Later at the hospital, police say Johnson admitted that he wanted to, "hurt some cops."

Johnson faces two counts of second-degree attempted murder. He is still being treated at Hennepin County Medical Center for his wounds, but is in police custody.
