Fargo police nail 17 in texting crackdown
FARGO, N.D. (AP) — Fargo police nailed 17 keyboard addicts during a crackdown on texting while driving, and an officer says there may be more stings coming.
Police set up along Fargo's Main Avenue near Interstate 29. An officer sat in a public works truck watching passing drivers, and he radioed ahead if he saw one texting.
Police Sgt. Ryan Dorrheim says 17 drivers got $100 tickets during the operation Monday and Tuesday.
Officer Mike Lovejoy worked on the enforcement effort, and he tells KFGO Radio he was surprised at the number of drivers who were "not paying attention to what's going on around them."
He says he expects Fargo police will "probably be doing more of these" enforcement actions in the future.
