Four hurt in separate explosion, fire incidents

Four people were hurt in two separate incidents Monday afternoon at agricultural facilities in southwestern Minnesota.

An explosion at a grain elevator in the community of Tracy injured a worker and a truck driver. They were flown to a Minneapolis hospital for evaluation and treatment.

The explosion occurred on a piece of loading equipment, said Lani Jordan, representing the elevator's owner, CHS.

"There was a quick explosion involving the grain elevator leg, not the elevator itself," Jordan said. "The leg is a piece that comes off the elevator that's involved in the loading and unloading of grain."

"The incident was over very quickly, and there is no risk to the surrounding community there," Jordan said.

Jordan says CHS is investigating the cause of the incident, as well as a fire Monday afternoon at the company's soybean processing plant in Fairmont.

Two people were injured there and treated at the scene.
