Authorities ID pilot killed in crash
BRAINERD, Minn. (AP) — Authorities have identified the pilot who died in a plane crash near Brainerd.
The Crow Wing County Sheriff's Office says 55-year-old Dan Steffen, of Crosslake, died at the scene Sunday morning on Upper Whitefish Lake.
His passenger, 61-year-old Frederick Hammer Jr., also of Crosslake, suffered non-life-threatening injuries. He's expected to recover.
The plane was described as an amateur-built Sky Star Kitfox 4.
The Crow Wing County sheriff's office, the Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board are investigating the cause of the crash.
