How prevalent is employee monitoring by companies?

We spoke yesterday to Scott Shane at The New York Times who has been covering a surveillance operation by the Food and Drug Administration. During the investigation, the organization secretly monitored employees' email messages.

During the conversation on The Daily Circuit, Shane mentioned that employee monitoring was more prevalent than most people may realize.

Elizabeth Charnock, chief executive officer and founder of Cataphora, a California-based firm helps companies in legal matters by investigating patterns of employee e-mail use, will join The Daily Circuit Tuesday to discuss the company practice.
