MnDOT checking NE Minn. bridges for flood damage
by Tom Crann, Minnesota Public RadioOne of the agenda items that state lawmakers will need to look at in a planned special session for flood relief is infrastructure repair costs.
Teams of bridge inspectors are blanketing northeastern Minnesota to check for damage that may have been caused by last month's flooding.
Minnesota's Department of Transportation is coordinating contracted inspection teams, like after the Interstate 35W bridge collapse, to check 180 bridges most likely to have been impacted by the flooding.
Duane Hill, MnDOT's District Engineer based in Duluth, said inspectors have plenty of ground to cover. He spoke with MPR's Tom Crann on All Things Considered.
