Suspect charged in Minn. daycare slaying
by Brandt Williams, Minnesota Public RadioBROOKLYN PARK, Minn. — Authorities said Monday they have charged a person in last month's fatal shooting of a Brooklyn Park home daycare provider and her parents.
The Hennepin County Attorney's office has charged Eddie Matthew Mosley, 34, of St. Louis, Mo. for the shootings of day care provider, DeLois Brown, 59 and her parents, James Bolden, 82 and Clover Bolden, 81, in the head at close range. Mosely was facing criminal sexual conduct charges involving a girl who had been in Brown's care.
Brooklyn Park police investigator Lt. Eric Nelson says Mosely was likely looking for the girl.
"We believe his motive was to come up here from St. Louis and he specifically targeted the residence he went to, to kill the victim so she could not testify against him," Nelson said.
Nelson says Mosley was arrested in St. Louis and is in custody in Wright County, where he faces the criminal sexual conduct charge. Mosley is expected to be transferred to Hennepin County soon.
Brown and her parents were found shot to death in their home on April 9. At the time, police said a woman dropped her toddler at the home that morning but later saw someone suspicious in the area and called Brown. She said she spoke to Brown briefly before she heard the word "no" and the phone went dead.
She turned around and returned to the home, where she saw a man riding off on a bicycle with something under his coat. The door was open, and inside she found the three victims in a bedroom, police said.
"No! No!" the woman exclaimed to the 911 dispatcher. "They're in their bed. ... There's blood all over them."
All three died of gunshot wounds, and Brown and her mother had been shot in the head.
The toddler wasn't hurt.
Family members and friends said Brown's husband, Joseph, died of pneumonia in February, and the Boldens had just moved to Minnesota from the St. Louis area so Brown could help care for them. James Bolden had diabetes and used a wheelchair.
