A panel of University of Minnesota regents is meeting Thursday to review the University of Minnesota's compensation policy for top administrators.
In February, the University was stung by media reports that former President Robert Bruininks paid fewer than a dozen departing university executives a total of $2.8 million, including paid administrative leave.
That set some politicians and members of the public fuming. The school has faced big budget cuts, and tuition continues to climb. In that light, Rep. Kim Norton, DFL-Rochester, called the payouts "shocking." And Rep. Mike Benson, R-Rochester, has said he wants the Legislature to look deeper.
MPR News higher-education reporter Alex Friedrich has been covering the fallout and the university's decision to look into the matter. He talks with The Daily Circuit about what to expect at the meeting.
