A Tale of Two Butterflies

St. Paul, Minn. — Minnesota Opera's season finale is Puccini's classic, Madame Butterfly.

The title role is shared equally by two great singers, Kelly Kaduce and Yunah Lee, over the course of eight (nearly sold-out) performances.

I wanted you to meet them both, and they were both kind enough to come to Classical MPR to sing, along with Minnesota Opera Artistic Director Dale Johnson.

Better yet, they agreed to sing the same music, so we could hear and discuss the similarities and differences between two artists in the same production.

Yunah is from Korea, while Kelly is from Winnebago, Minnesota. And while they come to the same role through different paths, they share a mutual respect for one another's talents, and for Madame Butterfly.
