Former Twins great Hrbek eagerly awaits his statue unveiling
On Saturday, Kent Hrbek will join a select group of former Minnesota Twins players when a statue in his honor is unveiled outside Target Field in Minneapolis.
Hrbek grew up in Bloomington near the old Metropolitan Stadium, the former home of the Twins. He played first base for his hometown team for 14 seasons and was a key member of the ballclubs that won the World Series in 1987 and 1991.
Hrbek will join Harmon Killebrew, Tony Oliva, Rod Carew and Kirby Puckett as the only players to be immortalized in bronze outside Target Field.
MPR's Cathy Wurzer spoke with Hrbek. Click on the audio link above to hear the interview.
