This year's state road construction projects include work on the Interstate 694 and Highway 10 interchange in the Twin Cities, and final work on an Interstate 35 bridge in Duluth.

State transportation officials announced the list of 316 projects, costing a total of $1.1 billion, on Thursday.

The unseasonably warm weather has helped the department get an early start, according to MnDOT Commissioner Tom Sorel. "It allows us to do some work that maybe we couldn't do if we had a severe winter, and it's helped from a maintenance perspective as well."

Other projects planned this year for the Twin Cities metro area include work on the Highway 52 Lafayette Bridge in St. Paul, resurfacing of Interstate 35E between St. Paul and Forest Lake, and continuing work on the Hwy 169 and I-494 interchange.

Other projects will improve railroad crossing safety, repair seawalls and docks and improve runways and terminals at regional airports.
