Teen indicted in killing of Mpls. 13-year-oldby Sasha Aslanian, Minnesota Public Radio
ST. PAUL, Minn. — A 17-year-old will face first-degree murder charges in the shooting death of a 13-year-old north Minneapolis boy last summer.
A Hennepin County grand jury returned a first-degree murder indictment against Donquarius Davon Copeland in the death of 13-year-old Rayjon Gomez in a drive-by shooting last August.
Gomez was shot while riding his bike with his friends in an alley in north Minneapolis. Another boy was also struck by a bullet, but survived.
Copeland was already in custody in Anoka for second-degree assault in another case.
Copeland's alleged accomplice in the north Minneapolis case is also is in custody. His name, court proceedings and charges are not public under state law because he was 15 years old at the time of the shooting.
Copeland's first appearance in Hennepin County court has not yet been scheduled.
