The Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra will offer $5-a-month memberships that allow members to attend as many concerts as they want starting this fall.

MPR News reporter Euan Kerr brought us the story this morning, but he told me it's one of a series of stories he plans to produce that speak to a larger issue in the arts world: some organizations are undergoing major changes in how they collect ticket money because of how patrons plan now plan their evenings. Arts consumers are much more spontaneous in planning, which makes it hard to abide by the more traditional model of subscribing to a season and picking out shows to attend months in advance.
