St. Paul, Minn. — Three members of the 2011 WNBA championship-winning Lynx basketball team have been selected for the 2012 U.S. Women's Olympic Team.

U.S.A. basketball has tapped Lynx guard Seimone Augustus, forward Maya Moore and guard Lindsay Whalen, a Minnesota native.

Augustus was part of the U.S. Olympic Team that won a gold medal in Beijing in 2008. This will be the first Olympic games for Moore and Whalen. Both were on the gold medal-winning 2010 U.S.A. World Championship team.

This is the fourth time in a row that a Lynx player has been on the Team U.S.A. The women's basketball team is seeking its fifth-consecutive and seventh overall gold medal at the Summer Games in London.

Whalen is currently playing in Prague; Moore is in Spain and Augustus is in Russia.

In a Lynx release, Whalen said growing up she dreamed about going to the Olympics and is excited about representing the country. Moore said she was caught off guard by the selection, but thinks can contribute passion and intensity to the American team.

The Olympic women's basketball competition is scheduled to begin July 28.
