Minn. state senator remembered as 'bridge crosser'
GRANITE FALLS, Minn. (AP) — Mourners are remembering State Sen. Gary Kubly as a "bridge crosser" for his ability to bring people of different views together.
Hundreds of people filled Granite Falls Lutheran Church Wednesday to say goodbye to Kubly. The 16-year Democratic legislative veteran and Lutheran minister died Friday at age 68 after a battle with Lou Gehrig's disease.
Bishop Jon Anderson says Kubly "saw his faith following Jesus directly connected to his being a citizen."
The West Central Tribune of Willmar reports Democratic Gov. Mark Dayton and Senate Majority Leader Dave Senjem, a Republican, were among officeholders attending Kubly's funeral.
Dayton has called a special election for April 10 to fill Kubly's Senate seat. If necessary, a primary election will be held March 27.
