New airline to serve MSP; details coming Wednesday
by Martin Moylan, Minnesota Public RadioST. PAUL, Minn. — The Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport will be getting service from another airline, but the carrier's identity and flight plans won't be revealed before a formal announcement Wednesday.

"We have been notified that another airline is going to begin serving the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport market," said Patrick Hogan, an airport spokesman. "That's great news for consumers, because the more airlines we have, the more competition we have, the better it is for fares."
Hogan said the airline is a "major" carrier that flies internationally but will provide only domestic service from the Twin Cities Airport. The airline will fly out of the Humphrey Terminal.
At least four carriers fit the description given by Hogan: jetBlue, Spirit, Hawaiian and Virgin America. A spokeswoman for jetBlue said that company had nothing to announce, but she wouldn't confirm or deny the airline will enter the Twin Cities market.
Representatives of the other carriers could not be reached for comment.
In February, Spirit announced new or added service for several markets, including Denver, Dallas, Phoenix, and Atlantic City. The airline has hubs in Chicago and Detroit. Officials at Spirit could not be reached for comment.
