St. Paul, Minn. — Interstate 94 is reopened in both directions after a fatal tanker truck accident early Monday morning (Monday) east of Hudson, Wis.

The fuel truck was heading east and crossed the median. It crashed into the Highway 65 bridge and caught fire. The truck driver was killed. No other vehicles were involved.

The explosion melted the pavement on the westbound side, and workers had to grind off a 100-foot section of the highway, said Chris Ouellette, Wisconsin transportation department spokeswoman.

"Once this weather moves through and things clear up a little bit, we hope to go back in then and patch it up with new asphalt," Ouellette said.

For now, traffic will have to slow down while driving over the concrete road base.
