City of Minneapolis investigating broken bridge cables

St. Paul, Minn. — A bicycle and pedestrian bridge over Highway 55 in Minneapolis remains closed this morning. The Martin Olav Sabo bridge is undergoing repairs after a cable support broke and caused a separate pair of cables to fail.

The bridge was built in 2007 to carry bicycles and pedestrians over Highway 55, also known as Hiawatha Avenue. This morning, light rail service is shut down at three Minneapolis stations in the area. And Hiawatha, between East 26th Street and Lake Street remains closed. There's no immediate word on when rail, road and bike traffic will return to normal.
