St. Paul, Minn. — Craig Finn has been an integral part of Minnesota music since his work in Lifter Puller during the 90s, and his subsequent turn as the frontman of The Hold Steady in New York created some of indie music's most compelling and critically acclaimed records. Now Finn is taking a short breather from the full band approach to focus on a more personal and reflective style.

His debut solo album Clear Heart Full Eyes was written in New York City and recorded in Austin, creating a distinct brand of storytelling alternately rooted in vignettes of solitude and a sense of southern twang. His character development is still evident, but he notes that the narratives are simpler and comes from a much softer, quieter place.

Craig Finn stopped by Minnesota Public Radio's UBS Forum for an intimate performance of these new songs and a chat with Mary Lucia.

Songs performed: "Apollo Bay," "Sarah, I'm Surrounded," "Jackson," and "Not Much Left."
