Arctic Cat issues recall of 19,000 snowmobilesby Jon Collins, Minnesota Public Radio
St. Paul, Minn. — U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission announced today that it's recalling about 19,000 Arctic Cat snowmobiles because a flawed part in the steering column could loosen and cause riders to lose control.
The voluntary recall affects the 2012 model year of F, XF and M series snowmobiles, which were mostly sold between May and December 2011.
Arctic Cat Inc., which is based in Thief River Falls, recommends consumers immediately stop using the affected snowmobiles and bring them to dealerships where the company will provide free repairs.
Although four incidents have been reported to the company, including one where the driver lost complete steering control, there have been no injuries reported due to the malfunction. Other incidents or injuries can be reported to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission.
The same model snowmobiles were recalled in December 2011 due to headlight failure.
