St. Paul, Minn. — A self-effacing diminutive English gentlemen appeared in Hollywood in the 1930s, and by the late 1950s, his nine-stroke pencil caricature have become internationally famous. Alfred Hitchcock, the master of suspense, long associated with holding audiences on seat-edges, casting handsome leading men and beautiful (usually blonde) leading ladies, had a musical muse in Bernard Herrmann. We celebrate hitch with North by Northwest. Mt. Rushmore never looked the same.
