St. Paul, Minn. — Of all the early primary states, Iowa is home to some of the strongest evangelical voters, and many of those voters live and work in northwest Iowa. It's the reddest part of the state.

Sioux City sits near the borders of Iowa, Nebraska and South Dakota. The city is home to Morningside College, where professor Bruce Forbes chairs the college's religious studies department. He also lives part-time in Minnesota.

As a dual resident, Forbes says he's recognized some similarities between the two states. He spoke to MPR's Cathy Wurzer.
