Ron Paul brings campaign to Minnesota Saturday

St. Cloud, Minn. — Thousands are expected to attend a rally Saturday for presidential candidate Ron Paul.

Tony Sutton, who chairs the Minnesota Republican Party, said the state's February caucus is early enough in the process that it could have a critical voice in determining who Republicans put up to run against President Barack Obama.

"I think that Ron Paul has recognized that, and I think other candidates will recognize that as well." Sutton said. "I wouldn't be surprised if we have a very vigorous campaign for president here in Minnesota."

Sutton would like to see other candidates follow Paul's lead.

"I hope this is an indication that Minnesota will be a player in [the] presidential nominating process," he said.

Recent polls show Paul fourth in the field of contenders, trailing GOP front runners Herman Cain and Mitt Romney.

Organizers said Paul's event is targeting folks in a part of the state that don't typically get access to candidates.

Paul will also make a campaign stop in Fargo following his St. Cloud appearance.
