St. Paul, Minn. — When the Carnegie Library opened in 1909 in Two Harbors, the newspaper of the time said: "No city is worthy of a place on the map unless it can boast of a Carnegie Library."

The industrialist Andrew Carnegie died in 1919. By that time, over 1600 Carnegie Libraries were built across the country — 66 of them here in Minnesota.

A new book documents and photographs the libraries here in Minnesota. Author Kevin Clemens speaks with Minnesota Public Radio about the Carnegie libraries.
