Minneapolis — A new bike center opens for University of Minnesota students on the Minneapolis east bank campus.

For $85 a year, university bike commuters can have a place to park and clean up, with 24-hour access to secure bicycle parking and a place to shower and change clothes.

The new Campus Bike Center also includes a repair service run by The HUB bike co-op said Steve Sanders, university parking services spokesman. A federal grant paid for the $560,000 bike center, located in the Oak Street parking ramp.

The university will host a grand opening event for the bike center from noon to 2 p.m. at the Oak Street ramp, 401 Oak Street S.E.
