Tenor Nathan Bird makes beautiful music with two guitars

St. Paul, Minn. — The first time I heard tenor Nathan Bird, he was filling in with Cantus for some of their winter concerts. He just hopped in and learned a massive amount of repertoire and then went out on stage and sang like a pro.

Later, I saw him sing - and dance - in the Guthrie's production of HMS Pinafore. A different world for this classical musician - and a hoot - but he was again an exemplary pro.

Nathan popped by the studio this afternoon to share with us one his latest project, a new recording of German songs including Schumann, Schubert and Strauss with guitar duo.
